PRESIDENT DR.MAYARDIT OPENED THE UNDER-17 CHAMPIONSHIP SOCCER TOURNEMENT IN JUBA
The President of the Government of Southern Sudan Dr. Salva Kiir Mayardit opened the under-17 CECAFA Championship at Juba stadium Wednesday in front of several thousand electrified fans.

The tournament is the first major event of its kind to be held in Southern Sudan involving twelve competing teams from various neighboring countries. The championship was opened simultaneously on the 19 th of August in Juba and Khartoum. The decisive decision taken by CECAFA to have group A matches played in Juba came after sending its delegations to visit the Juba stadium and perusing security situation in the capital. The move has proven the relentless efforts and the commitment the government of Southern Sudan has exerted in providing security and development in the country given the people of Southern Sudan a chance to enjoy peace dividend their own way.
While shaking hands with the two competing teams, President Mayardit echoes a welcoming gesture, “this is your country feel home and good luck.” Vice President Dr. Machar and the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Gabriel Changson Chang stood side by side; as the President Mayardit kicked the ball straight up in the air with ecstatic crowds roaring with standing applause and appreciations. The tournament officially opened.
Shortly, the match between Ethiopia and Uganda was underway. At the corner of the Stadium, both countries flags situated with fans jumping up and down sheering their team on. But the Hipo of Uganda did take the home team advantage edging their opponents in number of fans due to a huge community of Ugandan living in Juba. Even though Ethiopian string of passes troubled Uganda defense early on, the Hipo were poised and kept their game plan beating Ethiopia 4 goals to nil in the end. Then next match will featured Kenya and Zanzibar.
