SPLM TO HOST THE SECOND LEG OF TRILATERAL TALKS IN JUBA

The SPLM Chairman and the President of the government of Southern Sudan Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit opened the 5 th SPLM Political Bureau Meeting Monday afternoon in Juba discussing pending political issues. Speaking at a press briefing after the meeting, the SPLM Secretary General Pa’gan Amum Okiech said the meeting tackles several issues presented by member of SPLM Political Bureau. The result of the first leg of the trilateral talks between the SPLM, NCP, and Washington last month, the Sudan foreign policy, SPLM foreign policy, and the bill of laws that supposed to amend and brought in line with the CPA and the interim constitutions.

Comrade Malik Agar the SPLM Deputy Chairman presented the report about the last trilateral talks between the SPLM, NCP, and the US special envoy to Sudan held in Washington DC. The leadership appreciated the efforts Washington exerted to help the two parties to complete the implementation of the CPA. The second leg of the talks will be held in Juba as the US special envoy to Sudan Mr. Scott Gration is expected Juba for consultations talks with the SPLM delegation.

Another report was presented by Michael Makuey Lueth, he said. The bill of laws’ report covers the outstanding issues of referendum bills for Abyei, and Poplar Consultations in Nuba Mountains, and Blue Nile. More or less, the SPLM Political Bureau is concerns over the delay of these laws mentioning that they should be passed before the end of the year and before the end of the term of the current parliament. He also referred to other laws relating to democratic transformations in the Sudan such as the states security.

On a different note, the result of the census was among the issues discussed as the leadership explored alternatives ways to conduct elections without using the controversial census results. During the trilateral talks, the parties opted to reach consensus on implementation of the remaining roadmap for the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA.)
